Rolling Along

Rolling Along

I have always been fascinated with marbles. It is mesmerizing to gaze into  their depths. I really enjoy exploring their swirls of color, variance in values and the manner in which light dances through them.

Marbles were a special Easter gift. One bag  full of shiny new marbles were a delight to behold! I remember as children we had hours of fun playing with marbles. Twirling round and round to make earth pots we would become dizzy and giddy. Careful calculation took place as we made our shots towards the earth  pots, hoping to win more colors and sizes.

As with marbles we must roll along in life: moving beyond the bumps in order to experience life fully. Brushing off the dust of life and moving forward strengthens character and enables us to experience the gifts that await us.  May your bumps in life be small and your journey joyful!

Warmly,

Debbie Lamey-MacDonald

P.S. I would love to hear any of your stories or thoughts about marbles!

Love the sparkle and shine of those cats eyes. My Mom was a big marble player in her childhood on the local naval base that she lived….and must have been quite the player because she had a huge collection. As a kid it was so fun to sift through her collection and sort out our favorites. Mine always seemed to be the colorful cat’s eyes (I wonder why?!). She had all sizes, and colors. Glass, steelies and clay. I remember one in particular that was a huge marble with lots of chips. She told me she had found it in a garden bed. One day my brother and I decided to count how many marbles she had, and I remember it was over 5,000! And, she probably won 4,990 of them – not kidding. Your painting is beautiful (as always). Nice composition. Love the mini’s! ;)

Wow Cheryl!! What a wonderful story! You and your brother must have been really smart to have counted all of those marbles! So awesome that you can recall your mom’s marble collection so vividly. Your mom was quite a player–don’t think I would have had any marbles left after playing with her! lol
So happy you like the mini paintings–I really enjoy painting them. Thanks for your kind comments. Loved your marble story–made my day! Thanks for sharing! :D

Love the marble painting! It is really well done. I want to paint marbles now! :) I loved marbles as I was a kid. My brother and I had this big sock filled with our marbles. We had some super cool ones. We would set up a circle with a shoe string, pick out our favorite boulder marble to shoot with and take turns shooting the marbles out of the circle. After the marbles were all shot out of the circle, whoever had the most won. :)
