About Debbie

Debbie lives with her family in picturesque rural Nova Scotia, Canada. She is mostly self-taught and dedicated to working from life. Her love of nature is evident in her landscape work. Debbie frequently works on location capturing nature’s beauty in small studies and paintings. Her studies along with color notes are later used as reference for larger studio work.

Since her early childhood years still life painting has been an intense interest. Debbie orchestrates the stage for her props in her studio and paints them from life. Selected lighting on her props adds drama and mystic.

Being a life long student, Debbie’s love for literature and human emotion is evident in her lyrical written reflections that accompany her work. They personalize each piece of work, giving insight to a captured moment in time.

Debbie’s work is in collections throughout North America and Europe. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, Visual Arts Nova Scotia and Canadian Artists’ Representation. Debbie recently founded a plein air group for artists of all levels in her area called “Nova Scotia Plein Air Painters“.

    Is it dry yet?
Debbie~ What a wonderful happenstance when David & I kayaked over from our campsite in Barney’s River area to walk on the beach last week…well, if the horseflies hadn’t been so relentless! We both thoroughly enjoyed meeting & chatting with you & your partner. Although I have seen plein air artists in my travels before, I have never found one approachable, let alone friendly & willing to chat & share their art, as you did. David & I would love to purchase the painting you created that evening (as your husband practiced his golf:)
We enjoyed & appreciated the way that you captured the light, and created a feeling beyond realism and in such miniature.
I have also enjoyed your website and seeing so many of your pieces. I hope to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your talent.

LOL Karen–I laughed when I read your first line. I sent you an email yesterday regarding the painting, so I’m hoping you received it. Yes the painting is now dry. I am so happy it resonated with you both. Ian and I really enjoyed meeting you and David the other night. That is one of the nice things about plein air painting; meeting so many nice people. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Nova Scotia. I really appreciated your wonderful comment and kind words about my work. Thanks for visiting my website. Looking forward to hearing from you!

    hi debbie
i have a painting hanging over the fireplace in our living room that i received as a gift in july 1977 from a friend that lived on frasers mtn.
it’s signed debbie lamey and the picture is of a cabin on a island on a small lake.
i wouldn’t part with it because of it’s sentimental value and it’s such a nice peice.
i was curious if this could be one of your paintings and if it is i will say job well done!!!
