A Wash of Light

After a short summer we have been blessed with a balmy fall morning. A veil of haze washes over the atmosphere, creating a languous feeling. A feeling that once again nature has made time stand still, elongating it into a capsule of pure joy and freedom. Only the present counts; all else falls away. I have become enchanted with the back of this century old church. A glow of morning light washes over its entirety. A play of light and shadow attract my attention. The contrast creates a mood of joyfulness and mystic. I am especially drawn to the depth of reflections on the tall stately windows. Their depth draws one into a contemplative mood. Questions of years of worship prevail. This space has housed many a congregation that evolved with society and its many changes. Its exterior exit is most often in shadow. Today I am fortunate to have come when it has been enveloped with the spirit of an early morning glow.

    Wow Debbie,
I love this picture of the
    Maclennan’s Mountain Church,
My family has deep conections to this church so I
was really glad to see you paint it. When my mom was a little girl she rode by horse and wagon to go to this church every Sunday.
