Thanks so much for visiting my blog and taking the time to comment! My son builds my site so I will have to get him to answer some of your technical questions.I will get back to you on your first question. I do know that he has installed a plugin for my pictures so they open up in the middle of the screen. It is called NextGen Gallery– you can find it through google.

With regards to my font–I originally had two fonts–one italicized that I used for my reflections to go with my work and regular type font I used for the rest of the entry. Brett recently changed some things in the CSS and all my font is italicized so he is going to change that for me soon.

Great idea regarding the subscribe button for comments. I mentioned that to Brett already.

I appreciate your nice comment about my work! It truly is my passion! Wishing you many happy days painting this summer!

Debbie I love your comment ‘that in the haste of life, beauty in others is sometimes overlooked’. How true is that! I too love roses and several of the paintings in my series have had roses or flowers pop into them. Couple of questions Lamey, that I’m just dying to know!

First, this whole site’s in WordPress. The blog directory is lameymacdonald.com/blog. But each individual post omits the “blog” directory in the url. For example, this post’s url is lameymacdonald.com/natures-story/ instead of lameymacdonald.com/blog/natures-story/. My question is, how on earth did you do that?!

Second, I’m pretty sure you’re using a plugin for those pictures so they expand to the center of the screen when the viewer clicks on them. I’ve seen that on several sites, and I’m really interested in doing it on mine…could you please tell me how? Thanks!

No offense, but from a design standpoint I don’t recommend the text being in italics. It’s not a personal pet peeve, however; I think most designers would discourage it. For a tagline or for emphasis italics works great, but trying to read a whole post with it is quite tiresome.

You do great work though! I enjoy following this blog. A “subscribe to commments” module would be convenient though.

I always enjoy your visits! Yes Cohogs are large clams–people around here really enjoy digging and eating them! I got my fly spray at a health food store last year because I have to wear a lot out on location and didn’t like the toxic brands. It is really nice –just have to apply it more frequently. It is called Herbal Spray with Catnip (outdoor formula–Summer Surivivor) Here is the website where you can order it. Thanks for your kind words about my painting Cheryl! The red flowers are so cheery and you’ve captured them perfectly. I was first introduced to a Quince last year on a garden tour and was very curious about them. The one I saw had peach-colored blossoms.

Even though it’s tiny, that tomato looks so sweet and juicy. I just started my tomato plans from seeds indoors. Makes me look so forward to fresh salsa with cilantro come July/August! And, I agree, the viola’s are so cheerful looking. We have really tiny ones, called Johnny Jump Ups, and sometimes they are called Monkey Faces – which always makes me laugh. Is that what you call them in Nova Scotia too?

Love the marble painting! It is really well done. I want to paint marbles now! I loved marbles as I was a kid. My brother and I had this big sock filled with our marbles. We had some super cool ones. We would set up a circle with a shoe string, pick out our favorite boulder marble to shoot with and take turns shooting the marbles out of the circle. After the marbles were all shot out of the circle, whoever had the most won.

Love the sparkle and shine of those cats eyes. My Mom was a big marble player in her childhood on the local naval base that she lived….and must have been quite the player because she had a huge collection. As a kid it was so fun to sift through her collection and sort out our favorites. Mine always seemed to be the colorful cat’s eyes (I wonder why?!). She had all sizes, and colors. Glass, steelies and clay. I remember one in particular that was a huge marble with lots of chips. She told me she had found it in a garden bed. One day my brother and I decided to count how many marbles she had, and I remember it was over 5,000! And, she probably won 4,990 of them – not kidding. Your painting is beautiful (as always). Nice composition. Love the mini’s!

Debbie: Beautiful work! My favorite is “A Stately Presence”… I love the depth of field. I also liked “Renewal”, “Rounds”, “Cradle the Land” and “A Day’s Work” too. I have painted pieces similar to “Evening Reflections” and “A Wash of Light” before too… funny how artists are often drawn to similar scenes.

Dear Debbie,

I am the friend that Jill Claussen-Munro sent “A tribute” note card to. Jill is one of the most thoughtful, loving people I know and I so appreciated your personal note enclosed with the card. I am going to share these note cards with all of the co-workers that were with me that horrific morning when we witnessed this sorrowful event at our desks in lower Manhattan and while trying to flee the massive “Canyon of Hero’s” on foot for hours. We lost two people that day that we knew, an EMT who was a single Mom and a brother of a friend who worked in the So. Tower. Being so upclose and personal to such devastation before my very eyes will never leave my mind or prayers. Ever! You have brought a “calm and peaceful” feeling and renewal of life in this wonderful painting. Thanks so much for sharing it with us, we look forward to sharing your website with all of our friends and family.

Love your descriptions “hushed with a blanket of white”. I agree that the straw colored grasses add a softness to the landscape. You painted them perfectly. Excellent answer! I suspect they had changed throughout the course of the day & I agree that painting them realistically from time of photo wouldn’t have worked in the end. Wish I could sometimes change China’s gray skies to blue when filming here! Digital technology is no cheap thing.

Great question Steven! You are so observant! Must be all that great filming you do.
The clouds actually did change from the time I took the photo. I didn’t particularly care for the clouds earlier in the day as I found them flat and lifeless. I liked the fluffier clouds –they felt lively and seemed to suit the mood of my painting. So I took artistic license and added a bit of what they had become as well as my own artistic interpretion! LOL
Thanks for your nice comments as well! I tend to lean towards clear, bright colors while outdoors as I find them positive and cheerful.

Another beautiful work. You know I love your color combination. But this time I have a question. The clouds in the photo look more distant and linear, but in your painting, they look fluffier and closer. Is that because the clouds changed throughout the day, or is it to match the style of the rest of the painting?

You’d never know it was a windy day in this painting. The colors are great! Even though the blooms have faded, there is always something still so unique about the form of the plant. You look so sweet with your painting set up. I’m amazed at all of the detail you paint on a small surface. I didn’t realize the size until I saw it on your easel in the photo.

Love your observation about a park getting quieter as people move on to their other responsibilities as summer ends. I take my lunch break from work at a nearby park as often as I can. I see the same transition. Your painting is lovely as always. I love the various colors you used on your beach. So fun to get sneak peaks like that along a path. Thanks for sharing!

Oh , Debbie..this is absolutely breath taking. It is so perfect . The ripples in the water are recreated so perfectly , it feels as if I can almost hear the sound they make . I will tell you this much : what I love best about this painting are the ‘ Shadows ‘ . They are rendered so perfectly that I believe had any of the great masters been alive , they would have surely envied your skill !

This is amazing Debbie, how uncanny that all this happened prior to 9/11. I do believe as artists we sense things at a deeper level and I can see that you have done this. I sense the spirit in this painting. My art teacher once told me that some paintings will reveal a 4th dimension. This one certainly has. It speaks volumes. Wonderful story, uplifting in a time of great sorrow.

Thank you for this. I cannot find words to express my gratitude toyou for such a thought provoking rendition of the WTC . Being a survivor of that fateful day in history and having lost so many co workers & friends , along with my boyfriend who was one of the firefighters who perished there that day , this painting will hold a special place in my heart . I love the trees there Debbie , thank you so much for being able to bring beauty to a day of sheer horror .

Oh this is so beautiful – there is such a place right down the road from where I live . I go there to simply be alone amongst the trees and the roses . I love this painting .
